Peter Obi Visits Islamic Institute in Kaduna, Reaffirms Commitment to Education and Human Capital

Presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NGC), Peter Obi has reiterated his commitment to investing in education, healthcare and human capital development after visiting the Sheikh Muhammad Sambo Memorial Islamic Institute in Rigachikun, Kaduna State.

Obi disclosed that he arrived in Abuja from London on Sunday morning aboard Air Peace, adding that the flight arrived 20 minutes ahead of schedule. He said he subsequently travelled to Kaduna, where he visited the Islamic institute, an institution he said he had visited twice previously and supported in his personal capacity.

In a statement following the visit, Obi said he was impressed by the progress recorded by the institution, particularly its approach to combining Islamic education with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects.

He described the model as an example of holistic education capable of equipping young Nigerians with strong moral values as well as the knowledge and skills needed to compete and succeed in the modern world.

“I was very impressed by the level of progress the institution has made, particularly its approach to blending Islamic education with STEM subjects,” Obi said.

According to him, strengthening education remains central to addressing Nigeria's human-capital challenges and creating opportunities for young people.

He said his commitment extends beyond education to healthcare, human-capital development and measures aimed at reducing poverty and expanding opportunities for Nigerians.

Obi also stressed the importance of inclusiveness, saying every Nigerian should have a sense of belonging irrespective of religion, ethnicity, region or political affiliation.

“Every Nigerian, regardless of religion, ethnicity, region, or political affiliation, deserves to feel that this country belongs to them,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor concluded his message with his familiar call for a “New Nigeria,” saying, “A New Nigeria is POssible.”

The statement was accompanied by a separate reflection urging Nigerians to consider what it described as an opportunity presented by Obi's political aspirations at this point in the country's history.

The reflection recalled a proverb about the consequences of allowing opportunities to pass and appealed to Nigerians to take the current political moment seriously.

Obi's visit to the Kaduna institution comes as political activities and public engagements ahead of the 2027 general election continue to draw attention to education, healthcare, poverty reduction and human-capital development.
