2027: NDC Announces Schedule for Campaign Council Inauguration, Secretariat Commissioning

The party also disclosed that Certificates of Return would be presented to its candidates as part of the activities scheduled for the day, signalling a further step in its preparations for the forthcoming electoral contest.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced its programme of activities for Monday, October 26, 2026, including a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC), the commissioning of its newly acquired national secretariat in Abuja and the inauguration of its National Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also disclosed that Certificates of Return would be presented to its candidates as part of the activities scheduled for the day, signalling a further step in its preparations for the forthcoming electoral contest.

The National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director, announced the revised schedule in a statement issued on Sunday, outlining the sequence of events and the categories of party officials and candidates expected to attend the various sessions.

According to the statement, the NEC meeting will commence at 10:00 a.m. at the JD Vance Centre in Abuja.

The party emphasised that admission to the meeting would be strictly by invitation, adding that only members of the National Executive Committee would be permitted to attend.

The restriction underscores the party's intention to keep the meeting within the confines of its designated national leadership structure, as it addresses organisational and political matters ahead of the 2027 elections.

Following the NEC meeting, the party will proceed to commission its newly acquired national secretariat in Jabi, Abuja, at 2:00 p.m.

The development is expected to provide the party with a permanent administrative base in the Federal Capital Territory from which it can coordinate its national activities, manage its organisational structures and engage party members and stakeholders across the country.

The acquisition and commissioning of a national secretariat also form part of the practical requirements of running a political organisation preparing for a nationwide electoral campaign, particularly as parties begin to strengthen their administrative capacity and establish the structures needed to support candidates at different levels.

The NDC's activities will continue at 5:00 p.m. with the inauguration of its National Campaign Council (NCC), alongside the presentation of Certificates of Return to its candidates.

A dinner will follow the inauguration and presentation ceremony, according to the statement.

The National Campaign Council is expected to serve as a central platform for coordinating the party's campaign activities, harmonising the efforts of its candidates and organising its political engagement ahead of the general elections.

The council's inauguration will bring together key party officials and candidates who are expected to play significant roles in communicating the party's positions to voters and coordinating its electoral operations.

However, the NDC clarified that attendance at the campaign council inauguration would be restricted to members of the National Working Committee (NWC), the party's presidential candidate and running mate, governorship candidates and National Assembly candidates.

The party did not indicate that the event would be open to the general membership or the public, stressing the specific categories of officials and candidates eligible to participate.

The restrictions announced for both the NEC meeting and the campaign council inauguration suggest that the party intends to maintain a controlled attendance arrangement for the major activities, with access determined by participants' positions within its national leadership and electoral structures.

The presentation of Certificates of Return is another significant component of the programme, as the documents formally recognise the party's candidates under its internal nomination arrangements.

For candidates seeking elective offices, such documentation is an important part of the party's administrative processes, although participation in the broader electoral process remains subject to applicable electoral laws and the requirements of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

With the 2027 general elections approaching, political parties are expected to intensify preparations, including the organisation of campaign structures, mobilisation of supporters, development of policy messages and coordination among candidates contesting for various offices.

For the NDC, Monday's programme combines internal party administration with preparations for its campaign machinery, bringing its national leadership, presidential ticket and other candidates into a series of activities intended to strengthen its organisational framework.

The commissioning of the secretariat is expected to provide an institutional base for these efforts, while the inauguration of the campaign council will establish a platform for coordinating political activities as the electoral contest gathers momentum.

The party, in the statement, expressed appreciation to its members across the country for their continued support and loyalty.

It acknowledged the commitment of its supporters and urged them, through the message of appreciation, to sustain their support for the party.

The NDC did not provide further details about the agenda of the NEC meeting, the names of officials expected to attend the inauguration or the specific responsibilities to be assigned to members of the National Campaign Council.

The party's Monday activities will nevertheless place its national leadership and candidates at the centre of its preparations for the 2027 elections, as political organisations across Nigeria continue to consolidate their structures ahead of the next general electoral cycle.
